The Electoral Commission (EC) has announced a rerun of the Parliamentary Election in 19 polling stations within the Ablekuma North Constituency following a dispute over the authenticity of results from the December 7, 2024 general elections.
The announcement was made in a press release dated July 2, 2025, and signed by Samuel Tettey, Deputy Chairman of Operations at the EC. The decision comes after a meeting on July 1 with representatives from the two main political parties—the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
The dispute centres on the use of scanned Pink Sheets from 37 polling stations, which the NDC alleged were supplied by the NPP and lacked proper verification. The NDC called for a full rerun in all 37 polling stations, citing concerns over credibility and transparency.
The NPP, however, argued that only three polling station results were outstanding and that the scanned Pink Sheets had already been confirmed by NDC agents during the collation process.
According to the EC, the controversy arose after physical Pink Sheets were destroyed during a chaotic incident at the constituency collation centre, reportedly involving supporters of both parties. As a result, scanned copies were used in the final collation process.
Following detailed assessments, the EC concluded that 19 of the 37 scanned results lacked verification by the Presiding Officers, although they had been signed off by both party agents. These stations will therefore see a rerun of the parliamentary vote.
The remaining 18 polling stations had scanned Pink Sheets verified by both the party agents and the Presiding Officers, and their results will stand.
The rerun is scheduled for Friday, July 11, 2025. The EC has reaffirmed its commitment to transparency, fairness, and integrity, assuring voters of a credible electoral process.
The Ghana Police Service has been tasked with providing adequate security to ensure a peaceful and orderly election on the day of the rerun.
