Mahama calls on Putin to seek peaceful end to Russia-Ukraine war
President John Dramani Mahama has called on Russian President Vladimir Putin to pursue a peaceful resolution to the ongoing war between Russia and Ukraine, citing the devastating human cost of conflicts and their impact on global supply chains.
Speaking at the plenary session of the Third Russia-Africa Summit on Thursday, October 29, President Mahama stressed the need for amicable solutions to conflicts worldwide to promote lasting peace, security and international cooperation.
He welcomed President Putin’s expressed willingness to resume trilateral talks on the Russia-Ukraine conflict, as well as his call for a lasting peace agreement that guarantees security for both countries.
“We appreciate your willingness to resume trilateral talks in respect of the conflict with Ukraine and your call for a lasting peace agreement and security for both Russia and Ukraine,” he said.
President Mahama warned that ongoing conflicts continue to claim lives, inflict suffering on affected populations and disrupt global logistics and value chains.
He said the consequences of these conflicts extend beyond the countries directly involved, affecting international trade and the movement of goods, thereby underscoring the importance of coordinated efforts to restore peace and stability.
The President also called for strengthened international cooperation and solidarity in combating terrorism, particularly in the territories of the Alliance of Sahelian States, where persistent insecurity remains a major concern.
He emphasised the need for countries to work together to address security threats and resolve conflicts through dialogue and cooperation, noting that lasting peace is essential for global stability and economic development.
