Minister for Defence, Dr. Edward Omane Boamah, has directed a comprehensive investigation into the latest outbreak of violence in Bawku, which occurred on Sunday, July 13.
The directive was announced in a statement shared via his official Facebook page on Monday, July 14, as part of government efforts to restore peace and stability in the conflict-prone Upper East town.
Dr. Boamah called for restraint from all parties involved, urging residents to remain calm while authorities work to uncover the facts surrounding the recent disturbances.
“We are, once again, urging restraint and calm in Bawku regarding the latest developments as of yesterday,” the Minister stated.
The town of Bawku has long been affected by intermittent conflict, and the renewed violence has heightened tensions in the area. In response, Dr. Boamah assured the public that swift and appropriate measures would be taken once investigations are complete.
“I have directed thorough investigations into the recent matter and promised to take swift action based on recommendations,” he noted, emphasizing the need for a fact-based approach to prevent further escalation.
He concluded with a strong appeal for peace: “Once again, let us ensure restraint!”
The Defence Minister’s intervention adds to growing calls for calm and accountability following the recent clashes, as government works toward a long-term resolution to the Bawku crisis.
