The Ofaakor Circuit Court, presided over by Her Honour Asantewaa Atakorah, has remanded three Nigerian nationals into police custody, while a Ghanaian woman, Linda Asante Boateng, has been granted bail in connection with an alleged kidnapping and fraud case involving a fellow Nigerian national.
Linda Asante Boateng was granted bail in the sum of GH¢100,000 with two sureties, one of whom must provide a landed property.
The suspects are Muhyadeen, Bartholomew Chukunoner, Joseph Kayan, and Linda Asante Boateng. All four pleaded not guilty and are expected to reappear before the court on February 6, 2026.
The suspects were arrested by the Central East Regional Police Intelligence Department (PID) after the victim lodged a complaint at the PID headquarters.
Information gathered by Nana Ansah indicates that the suspects allegedly lured the victim from Rivers State in Nigeria to Ghana under the pretext of facilitating his travel abroad, which later turned out to be a scam.
The victim told investigators that the suspects initially demanded ₦150,000 as a processing fee, followed by an additional ₦2.5 million. The prosecutor informed the court that the victim sold his house and other properties in Nigeria and travelled to Ghana with his car, believing he would be assisted to travel abroad.
According to the prosecution, after the suspects collected the initial payments, they began giving excuses, which eventually led to their arrest. The prosecutor further stated that the suspects kidnapped the victim upon his arrival in Ghana, seized his mobile phones, and continued to defraud him.
After the court proceedings, the victim, Effraim Emaka, said he had been left at “square one” in life, having lost his job in Nigeria and sold his house.
All the suspects remain before the court and are scheduled to reappear on February 6, 2026.
