The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for the Old Tafo Municipal Assembly, Abubakar Sadiq, has reiterated the government’s commitment to strengthening vocational and apprenticeship education as part of President John Dramani Mahama’s vision to reset Ghana through skills development.
According to him, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) government places high priority on vocational institutions under the National Apprenticeship Programme and will continue to support them with the needed machinery and equipment to enhance training and accelerate development.
“This school is in line with President Mahama’s vision to reset Ghana through the National Apprenticeship Programme. It is the NDC government’s vision to assist these schools with the needed machinery to facilitate massive development,” Mr Sadiq stated.
He made the remarks during the 18th Graduation and Fundraising Ceremony of the Wealth Creation and Social Development Training Centre, popularly known as Akoto Mma, held in the Old Tafo Municipality.
Mr Sadiq recalled that during the regime of the late President Prof. John Evans Atta Mills, the NDC government supplied equipment to support the centre and assured that the current Mahama-led government would continue in that direction.
“During the late Prof Mills’ regime, the NDC bought some equipment for them. Going forward, under President Mahama’s regime, we are also going to help this vocational school with some necessary equipment to help train the youth for a better future,” he added.
In further support of the institution, the MCE announced his intention to allocate part of the Municipal Assembly’s Common Fund to aid the smooth running of the training centre.
“The school has done so much in providing employable skills for the youth in this municipality, so I am going to allocate part of our common fund to support the smooth running of the training centre,” he assured.
Speaking at the event, the Managing Director of the Wealth Creation and Social Development Training Centre, Nana Konadu Yiadom, underscored the critical role vocational skills play in national development, stressing that individuals with vocational training are better positioned to be self-reliant.
“Vocational skills in Ghana undoubtedly contribute to the development of the nation. People who have vocational training do not suffer in life. For this reason, I urge the youth to focus more of their attention on acquiring vocational skills,” she said.
She also appealed to parents and guardians to encourage their children and wards to enrol in vocational institutions to secure a better future.
Mrs Yiadom further revealed that the centre has embraced modern teaching methods, including the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI), to enhance productivity and efficiency among students.
“At the Wealth Creation and Social Development Training Centre, we teach students all manner of subjects. We also teach them how to use AI to speed up their work,” she disclosed.
The ceremony, which brought together traditional leaders, parents, students, and stakeholders in education, celebrated the successful graduation of trainees and raised funds to support the expansion and operations of the centre.
