The Juaboso Magistrate Court has remanded Evans Amoako, popularly known as Sasso, into police custody after he was captured in a viral video brandishing a firearm and issuing threats against security agencies.
The video, which surfaced on social media on Sunday, August 24, 2025, showed Amoako wielding a locally manufactured pistol loaded with live ammunition. Surrounded by unidentified accomplices, he warned that any security personnel who attempted to arrest them at their illegal mining site would be shot.
Police arrested Amoako two days later, on August 26, at Sefwi Metemano in the Juaboso District of the Western North Region.
He was subsequently arraigned before the Juaboso Magistrate Court, where prosecutors charged him with causing fear and panic among security agencies and unlawful possession of a firearm.
The prosecution opposed bail, arguing that the accused could interfere with investigations, including efforts to track down his accomplices and recover the weapon featured in the video.
When asked to respond, Amoako admitted ownership of the firearm and pleaded guilty. He claimed, however, that the weapon was displayed “for play” and that he did not personally upload the video to TikTok. He pleaded for bail, promising to cooperate with investigators.
The magistrate declined his request, stressing the gravity of the offences and the likelihood of interference with ongoing investigations. Amoako was remanded into police custody, with the case adjourned to September 15, 2025, for further hearing.
Meanwhile, illegal mining activities continue to escalate in the Juaboso District, heightening tensions between miners and security agencies.
