The Awutu Bereku District Police Command has arrested a couple for allegedly chaining their 9-year-old son in a bush for two days at Gomoa Nkwantanan in the Gomoa East District of the Central Region.
The suspects, 35-year-old Bismarck Odoi and 33-year-old Saviour Arthur, reportedly admitted to the act, claiming they wanted to discipline the boy for being stubborn.
The child was rescued by a woman who had gone into the bush to gather firewood. James Mensah, who took the boy to the police, told Adom News that the woman brought him to the chief’s palace with chains and padlocks still secured around his legs.
Recounting his ordeal, the boy revealed that his father had threatened to punish him and his younger brother for being late to school. Upon their return home, he was taken into the bush, chained, and abandoned.
Police have launched an investigation into the case, and the couple is expected to face legal action.
