Julius Debrah, Chief of Staff, has summoned Sammy Gyamfi, the Acting Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Gold Board, following the circulation of a viral video allegedly showing him handing an undisclosed sum of U.S. dollars to Patricia Oduro Koranteng, widely known as Nana Agradaa — a former fetish priestess who now identifies as an evangelist.
According to a reports, Gyamfi has been asked to clarify the circumstances surrounding the transaction, which has sparked significant public criticism and raised serious ethical concerns regarding the conduct of public officials.
The video, widely shared on social media, appears to depict Gyamfi in a private meeting with Nana Agradaa. While the context and purpose of the cash handover remain unclear, the involvement of a senior government official with such a polarizing religious figure has led to intense public scrutiny and suspicion.
Critics argue that Gyamfi’s actions may violate President John Dramani Mahama’s recently introduced Code of Conduct for Public Officials — a key component of the administration’s ongoing anti-corruption agenda aimed at rebuilding public trust in government institutions.
In a statement released on Sunday, May 11, Sammy Gyamfi expressed regret over the incident, characterizing the gesture as a private act of compassion that was never intended for public attention.
Despite his explanation, the political sensitivity and potential reputational fallout of the incident have prompted the Chief of Staff to treat the matter with urgency.
