The Ofaakor District Magistrate Court in Kasoa has sentenced three people to a combined 20 months in prison for their involvement in examination malpractice during the 2025 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE).
The convicts include Samuel Armah, a teacher at Ghana College SHS, and two students — Kwame Oteng Nkansah and Amedeka James.
According to the court, Samuel Armah was caught with leaked answers to Social Studies Paper 1 on his phone and was dictating them to candidates while serving as an invigilator.
Kwame Oteng Nkansah, a Level 100 student of Accra Technical University, was found guilty of impersonating Quayson Francis Atta, a candidate from Ghana College SHS, during the same paper.
Similarly, Amedeka James, a Level 100 student of the University of Ghana, impersonated his twin brother, Amedeka Justice, also of Ghana College SHS.
After reviewing the evidence, the court sentenced Samuel Armah to 8 months’ imprisonment in addition to a fine of 80 penalty units. Kwame Oteng Nkansah and Amedeka James were each sentenced to 6 months’ imprisonment and fined 80 penalty units apiece.
Following unannounced visits to examination centres, the Municipal Chief Executive, Hon. Seth Sabah Sewornoo-Banini, raised concerns over congestion and poor sitting arrangements, directing officials to address these lapses to ensure a smoother conduct of the remaining papers.
The Municipal Education Director, Mr. Frank-Etrue Hayford, also condemned the malpractice, stressing his commitment to safeguarding the credibility of the examination process.
