The Gomoa East District office of the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) has taken decisive action to address recurring flooding issues at Fetteh Kakraba by undertaking a massive dredging exercise and demolishing unauthorised structures built in waterways.
The operation, which follows the submerging of over 400 houses due to a heavy downpour a month ago, saw more than eight structures pulled down to pave the way for improved drainage flow and flood prevention.
Speaking to Oyerepa News, Gomoa East NADMO Director, Hassan Hamadu, stated that the demolition is part of a larger effort to protect lives and property and that the exercise will be carried out without fear or favour. “We will not spare anyone. Any building sitting in a waterway will be removed,” he stressed.
Traditional leader Omankrado of Fetteh Kakraba, Nana Yaw Kudu-Manu, threw his support behind the initiative, urging the Assembly and NADMO to continue demolishing all structures obstructing water flow.
He emphasised that preserving human lives and safeguarding property must be the top priority.
The NADMO-led operation forms part of a renewed commitment to tackle the root causes of flooding in the district and to prevent future disasters.
