A man and his wife have been arrested at Awutu Bontrase in the Awutu Senya West District of the Central Region for allegedly killing their three-day-old baby boy and dumping the body at a refuse site.
According to reports gathered by Nana Ansah, the baby was discovered dead with severe injuries, including the removal of the head and left hand.
The body was spotted at a refuse dump, prompting a search by residents in the area. During their inquiries, they discovered that a 24-year-old woman, Abena Benewa, had given birth at home. A traditional birth attendant reportedly told her that the baby had died.

Preparations were reportedly underway for the baby’s burial when the father, identified as 26-year-old Bright Ashiao, took the body, claiming he would handle the burial himself.
However, during further questioning, it was revealed that the baby had been buried at the same location where the body was later found.
An eyewitness, speaking in an interview with Nana Ansah, said both the husband and wife were arrested by police at Bontrase and later transferred to Bereku.

Some community members have alleged that the couple may have intended to use the child for money rituals, although the police have not confirmed these claims.
The Assembly Member for the Bontrase Electoral Area, Hon. Prince Larbie, confirmed the incident and expressed concern that some youth in the community are increasingly engaging in money rituals and other criminal activities.

Meanwhile, the Awutu Bereku District Police Commander, Chief Superintendent Edmond Nyamekye, said the suspects are currently in police custody and will soon be arraigned before court.
