The police have arrested fourteen individuals in connection with a violent chieftaincy dispute in Agona Abodom, Central Region, while four others have been discharged from the hospital following treatment.
As earlier reported by Oyerepa News correspondent Nana Ansah on August 2, 2025, the clash—believed to have involved alleged landguards and youth of the town—resulted in the deaths of four individuals, with ten others critically injured. The violence erupted during the community’s festival celebration.
According to reports, the suspected landguards stormed the chief’s palace amid ongoing tensions surrounding the chieftaincy dispute.
Agona Abodom, located in the Agona West Municipality, has been plagued by chieftaincy disputes for over 45 years. The recent installation of Nana Osamdade Obrempong XI as the new chief has sparked fresh unrest, with rival factions disputing the legitimacy of his enstoolment.
The police have since arrested 14 suspected landguards as investigations continue into the cause and escalation of the incident.
Meanwhile, residents and traditional leaders (Nananom) in Agona Abodom are appealing for heightened security presence in the area, as the community remains gripped by fear and uncertainty.
