Communications team member of the National Democratic Congress ( NDC) Francis Addo has today declared his stand strongly against his party’s position on Sports Betting and has encouraged the NPP government to prohibit it instead of taxing it.

Speaking on Oyerepa Fm on Wednesday morning the NDC communicator asserted that politics have blindfolded us so much that we have failed to differentiate between right and wrong.

In a press release from the camp of the National Youth Organiser of the NDC, George Opare Addo, the party expressed strong opposition to the 10 per cent tax on sports betting and further hinted to embark on picketing at the Ministry of Finance.

“Our determination to protect the fund’s young people secure through betting is unyielding. Through agitations, protests, advocacy, and civic engagements, we will ensure our voices are heard and demand that this CORRUPT Akufo-Addo/Bawumia Government rescind its decision” the statement read.

“We intend to do the following; Picket at the Ministry of Finance and occupy government offices across the country. Start and scale up nationwide conventional and unconventional lawful agitations as a measure of the resistance. Instigate young people to confront officials of this government and demand AN END to the CORRUPTION and Insensitivity of the Akufo-Addo-Bawumia-failed brigade, and Occupy Parliament and other government agencies” stated in the release.

Meanwhile, there seems to be a contradiction between the Youth Organizer and the Minority leader Dr Forson, who is also a leading member of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), saying that the prevalence of sports betting is detrimental among the Ghanaian youth which he further called for complete ban rather than the 10 per cent tax.

Reacting to this issue the Communications team Member of NDC expressed his disappointment in the National Youth Organizer for his release on the position made on sports betting.

Adding that for once he stands to oppose his party’s position made on this issue of sports betting and therefore will not support the idea of embarking on a needless demonstration.

However, he opined that there should rather be pragmatic measures to help curb the situation of sports betting among the Ghanaian youth which he thinks should be completely abolished.
