Kumawu MP donates motorcycle, laptop and cash to support sekyere kumawu CHRAJ office

The Member of Parliament for Kumawu Constituency and Chairman of Parliament’s Human Rights Committee, Hon. Ernest Yaw Anim, has donated a brand-new motorcycle, a laptop computer and cash for fuel to the Sekyere Kumawu District Office of the Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ).

The donation, presented at the MP’s residence in Kumawu, is aimed at improving the mobility and operational capacity of the Commission to enable it to reach remote communities in the district and promote and protect human rights.

Presenting the items, Hon. Anim noted that, as Chairman of Parliament’s Human Rights Committee, he has oversight responsibilities relating to CHRAJ and appreciates the critical but challenging work the Commission undertakes, particularly in rural districts facing logistical constraints.

“CHRAJ is the last hope for many vulnerable people seeking justice. But without mobility and tools, their work is limited. I have seen their challenges in Sekyere Kumawu, and as MP and Chairman of the Human Rights Committee, I believe there is a need to support them to do more for our people,” Hon. Anim said.

He explained that the motorcycle would enable officers to travel to hard-to-reach communities to address human rights complaints, child maintenance cases and conduct public education, while the laptop would support documentation, reporting and case management.

Hon. Anim further announced plans to provide quarterly assistance to the district office in the form of fuel and funds for its operational expenses to ensure its continued effectiveness.

“We cannot leave CHRAJ alone. If we want them to protect the rights of our children, women, the aged and the vulnerable, we must resource them. This quarterly support is my commitment to them,” he stressed.

Receiving the items on behalf of the Commission, the Sekyere Kumawu District Director of CHRAJ expressed gratitude to the MP, describing the gesture as timely and unprecedented.

He noted that the lack of transportation had been the office’s biggest challenge, making it difficult to investigate cases and conduct community sensitisation programmes.

He assured the MP that the items would be put to good use in serving the people of Kumawu and pledged to work harder to justify the investment.

He also appealed to other well-meaning individuals and organisations to emulate the MP’s example.

The presentation was witnessed by constituency executives, CHRAJ staff and some community members.
