Bawumia Charges New NPP Executives to Lead Party’s 2028 Comeback

NPP flagbearer Dr Mahamudu Bawumia has charged the party’s newly elected regional executives to treat their positions as a responsibility to rebuild the party and lead its campaign to regain power in the 2028 general elections.

Addressing the newly elected Greater Accra Regional executives on Sunday, August 16, following the party’s regional elections, Dr Bawumia said the NPP’s internal reorganisation must translate into a stronger and more united political organisation.

He said the ultimate objective of the exercise was to position the party to defeat the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the 2028 elections.

“The goal for all of us is to win the 2028 election. This is just a stepping stone towards winning 2028,” he said.

Dr Bawumia noted that the party had already completed a number of stages in its reorganisation, including polling station, electoral area and constituency elections, with the regional elections constituting another key phase of the process.

He said the exercise would conclude with the national executive elections scheduled for October 10, after which the party would have completed the restructuring of its organisational machinery.

“We will culminate that process on October 10 with the national elections and therefore, at the end of that, the party will be in a good position to have that vehicle that drives us to victory in 2028,” he said.

The former Vice President urged the newly elected executives to fully commit themselves to the task ahead and work to strengthen the party from the grassroots to the regional level.

He cautioned the executives against viewing their election as merely a personal or political achievement, stressing that their positions came with significant responsibilities.

According to Dr Bawumia, the NPP still has considerable work to do to rebuild its structures, strengthen its membership and restore confidence ahead of the next general election.

He therefore called on the executives to focus on unity, mobilisation and effective organisation as the party moves into the next phase of its preparations.

The August 15 regional elections, he said, should be regarded as part of a broader process of rebuilding the NPP into an effective political vehicle capable of delivering victory in 2028.
