“Help those who want to be helped” – Dr Cryme
Ghanaian musician Darlington Kwasi Agyekum, popularly known as Dr Cryme, has cautioned philanthropists and individuals who support others to carefully assess those they choose to assist.
The musician said his experience has taught him that offering opportunities to people who lack the determination to make use of them can become a setback for the person providing the support.
Speaking in a recent interview, Dr Cryme explained that he once planned to help a number of people advance their careers but discovered that some were unwilling to put in the required effort.
“I always tell people to help those who want to be helped. Some time ago, I was planning to help some people get to the top, but some were not ready. If you’re helping like 10 people and five of them are not ready to be helped, they will put some form of weight on you,” he said.
The “Kill Me Shy” hitmaker believes opportunities are abundant enough for people to succeed together, but beneficiaries must be prepared to take responsibility for their own progress.
“You might be willing to help because you think the sky is big enough for us to share so that we can also win together, and some are not ready; they won’t push you or be motivated enough to help the rest,” he explained.
Dr Cryme further advised those who dedicate their resources to supporting others not to become discouraged when their efforts are unappreciated. He encouraged them to remain cautious while leaving the outcome of their goodwill to God.
“If you help someone too, be vigilant and create awareness. Anything that you’re doing to help, don’t expect anything in return. Whether the person is grateful or not, leave it to God,” he added.
His comments underline the importance of combining generosity with discernment, particularly for people who regularly use their resources and influence to create opportunities for others.
