NaCCA warns against use of unapproved learning materials in Schools

The National Council for Curriculum and Assessment (NaCCA) has directed publishers, booksellers, schools and other education stakeholders to ensure that only approved learning materials are used in Ghana’s pre-tertiary schools.

In a public notice issued on Monday, July 6, NaCCA reminded stakeholders that it is the only institution legally mandated under the Education Regulatory Bodies Act, 2020 (Act 1023) to assess, approve and recommend learning materials for use at the pre-tertiary level.

The Council stated that all textbooks and other educational materials intended for use in schools must first undergo its assessment and approval process before they can be published, advertised, distributed or used.

NaCCA explained that approved materials are issued with an official NaCCA Approval QR Code, which allows users to confirm their authenticity and verify their approval status.

It therefore urged publishers, schools, retailers, booksellers and the general public to check the QR code before purchasing, distributing or using any learning material.

The Council also expressed concern over the unauthorised use of its logo and other official symbols on learning materials that have not received approval.

According to NaCCA, such actions are misleading, unlawful and create the false impression that the materials have passed the required quality assessment process.

The Council has consequently instructed publishers and individuals involved in the practice to immediately stop using its name, logo, insignia or any representation suggesting approval for unapproved materials.

NaCCA warned that failure to comply with the directive could result in regulatory sanctions and legal action.

The Council reaffirmed its commitment to protecting the quality and standards of Ghana’s pre-tertiary education system by ensuring that schools use only learning materials that meet approved curriculum requirements.
