“Our prayer turned it” — Prophet Uche fires back at critics over Black Stars prophecy
Prophet Eric Boahen-Uche has responded forcefully to growing criticism on social media following his earlier declaration about the Ghana national football team’s performance in the FIFA World Cup qualifiers; a claim that has now become a subject of heated public debate after Ghana’s narrow 1–0 win over Panama.
The controversy began after the outspoken Ghanaian preacher allegedly predicted that the Black Stars would fail to win any of their group-stage matches. That prediction has since been challenged by the team’s recent result, prompting widespread online reactions, ridicule, and renewed scrutiny of his spiritual assertions.
In reaction to the backlash, Prophet Eric Boahen-Uche stood his ground, insisting that his warnings were spiritually guided and publicly documented.
He said: “Ghana, listen to me. The world, listen to me. I am not a small prophet that you can just ignore or set traps for—it will not work. The internet does not lie. Videos do not lie. Dates and times do not lie. Now listen. Four months ago, I gave a prophecy that Ghana was not going to win any game in the World Cup we are going to play. I told them we must pray for the team. In fact, I said they should not even come and see us. We needed to pray for them. We prayed for the team.”
He further maintained that he took spiritual steps beyond public declarations, insisting that national intervention through prayer and fasting was necessary. According to him, the church and online followers were mobilized into a collective spiritual effort.
“Then I came to stand here again and made another declaration that we should pray for the team. As a good citizen, would I sit and watch my country go into battle and do nothing when I have spiritual authority? I stood here and called for prayers, and the entire church, including those on the internet and social media, joined. I declared a three-day fast for the nation, for the match, and for the country. I also said the Panama match was the only way Ghana could pass through. Go and check the records,” he stated.
Prophet Boahen-Uche also referenced a social media post he made shortly before kickoff, suggesting that he had already received confirmation of divine intervention ahead of the game.
“Now it has come to pass. Even two hours before the match started, I posted on my personal page that the God of Ghana has spoken. Because of our prayers and fasting, tonight, the team is winning. Go and check my personal Facebook page,” he added.
As reactions grow louder, Prophet Eric Boahen-Uche remains firm in his position, insisting that his spiritual declarations and national prayer efforts played a role in shaping the outcome of Ghana’s football journey.
