Gov’t to revise BECE timetable to ease pressure on students – Haruna Iddrisu

The Minister of Education, Haruna Iddrisu, has announced that government is reviewing the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) timetable to introduce longer intervals between papers and reduce stress on candidates.

Speaking at Aburi Girls’ Senior High School on Wednesday, June 10, he said concerns had been raised about the current examination structure, which runs continuously from Monday to Friday, placing significant pressure on students.

“I understand that our schedule of the exams for BECE was just Monday to Friday, and that put many of you under some stress,” he stated.

Mr. Iddrisu explained that under the proposed changes, the BECE will now commence on a Wednesday and conclude on the following Wednesday. This adjustment, he said, will give candidates more time to prepare between papers and include a weekend break within the examination period.

“The government is reviewing the BECE exams calendar. So now the BECE will begin on a Wednesday and end the following Wednesday, so that adequate time is given to our learners to prepare for BECE across the country,” he added.

He further indicated that the Director-General of the Ghana Education Service (GES) will supervise the implementation of the revised timetable once it is finalised.

The proposed adjustment forms part of broader efforts by the Ministry of Education to improve examination conditions and reduce academic pressure on students across the country.
