Police arrest young woman over alleged threats against President Mahama

A young woman identified as Mahama Aminat, also known as Akosua Serwaa Minat, has been arrested for allegedly issuing threats against President John Dramani Mahama in viral social media videos.

The arrest was carried out by the Inspector General of Police’s Cyber Vetting and Enforcement Team (CVET) in collaboration with the Surveillance Unit of the National Operations Department.

In a statement issued on Thursday, May 21, 2026, the police said the suspect was apprehended after videos circulated on TikTok allegedly showed her making insulting remarks about the President and threatening his life.

“The IGP’s Cyber Vetting and Enforcement Team (CVET) has arrested suspect Mahama Aminat, also known as Akosua Serwaa Minat, for offensive conduct and issuing threats against the President of the Republic, His Excellency John Dramani Mahama, in videos circulated on social media,” the statement said.

According to the police, the videos also contained comments considered inciteful toward the President and the First Lady.

“She was threatening the life of the President and inciting others to harm both the President and his wife,” the statement added.

Police said investigations and intelligence gathering began on May 19, 2026, leading to an operation that resulted in her arrest on May 20, 2026, at Sekyere Zongo in the Sekyere Kumawu District of the Ashanti Region.

Authorities stated that the suspect was identified through videos posted on TikTok in which she allegedly made offensive comments directed at the President.

The suspect is currently in police custody and is expected to be arraigned before court.
