Dr. Stephen Amoah, Member of Parliament for Nhyiaeso, has refuted assertions that former President Nana Akufo-Addo prevented Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia from performing his duties during the New Patriotic Party (NPP) administration.
The comments come after Dr. Bawumia, ahead of the 2024 elections, described his role as feeling like a “driver’s mate,” claiming he was excluded from some policy decisions while serving as vice president.
Speaking on Oyerepa Breakfast Time with Kwesi Parker Wilson, popularly known as Sticka, Dr. Amoah questioned the credibility of these claims.
“Who is telling you that Akufo-Addo never allowed Bawumia to work? They should stop the intimidation and false accusations,” he said.
Dr. Amoah specifically referenced Dr. Bawumia’s leadership of key initiatives such as digitalization projects, asking,
“If Dr. Bawumia was not allowed to work, then how did he implement the digitalization?”
He further criticized the timing of the allegations.
“I am surprised they are saying this. Why did they not say it all this while? If the NPP had won the 2024 election, would they have said this? That is propaganda. Why do you take credit for every good thing and blame Akufo-Addo for the bad ones?”
