The Governing Council of Kumasi Technical University (KsTU) has established a committee to examine concerns arising from recent directives issued by the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC) regarding staff members who obtained degrees from institutions classified as “unrecognised.”
In a press release dated December 15, 2025, and signed by the Registrar, the University stated that the committee has been tasked with reviewing GTEC’s directives as they relate to staff whose academic qualifications were acquired from institutions listed as unrecognised.
The committee will also consider a petition filed against the Vice-Chancellor, which alleges that his PhD was obtained from one of the universities described by GTEC as unrecognised.
According to the statement, the petition is currently under review, after which the Governing Council will take all necessary measures to protect the University’s integrity and reputation.
The Council assured stakeholders that the matter would be handled with fairness and transparency, and appealed for patience as the process continues.
“We appreciate the patience and understanding of our stakeholders as we work to resolve this matter in a fair and transparent manner,” the statement concluded.
