The Coalition of Unpaid Newly Posted Teachers from Colleges of Education and University graduates has taken to the streets to demand the payment of salaries owed them.
According to the group, its members have not received salaries for the past seven months since their employment, a situation that has placed a heavy burden on their families, especially parents who sponsored their education.
Speaking to the media, Emmanuel Ofori, Secretary of the Coalition, appealed to the government through the Ghana Education Service (GES) and the Ministry of Finance to issue staff IDs and clearances to enable them to access their salaries.
“We, the over 6,000 members of the Coalition, are yet to receive our staff IDs from GES and clearance from the Ministry of Finance since we were employed seven months ago,” Mr Ofori stated.
Some members of the group, including visually impaired teachers, also shared their difficulties of working for months without pay.
They are therefore calling on President John Dramani Mahama to direct the Minister of Finance, Mr Cassiel Ato Forson, to expedite the issuance of their clearance and ensure prompt payment of their salaries.
