The Central East Regional Police Command has arrested two men for allegedly possessing substances suspected to be Indian hemp at Gomoa Nyanyano.
The suspects — 30-year-old Eric Nkyeke and 28-year-old Francis Klu — were apprehended by a Nyanyano District Police patrol team at about 7:40 a.m. on Monday, August 11, 2025.
According to a police statement issued the same day, the men were intercepted while offloading 519 compressed parcels of the suspected narcotic from a Toyota Hilux pick-up truck, registered GS-6849-21.
“The suspects, who were then offloading the said substances, were arrested and are currently in police custody assisting with investigations,” the statement read.
The vehicle has since been impounded, while both suspects remain in custody.
Commending the swift action of the arresting officers, the Central East Regional Police Command reiterated its determination to intensify the fight against drug-related crimes.
“This arrest demonstrates our unwavering commitment to dismantling the drug trade and keeping our communities safe. Those who engage in such illegal activities should know that the law will catch up with them,” the statement stressed.
The Command further urged individuals involved in the drug trade to desist or face prosecution, and called on the public to report any suspicious criminal activities to help maintain community safety.
