Former Chief Executive Officer of the National Petroleum Authority (NPA), Dr. Mustapha Abdul-Hamid, has fulfilled his GH¢2 million bail conditions in the ongoing extortion and money laundering case brought against him and six others.
The Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) confirmed the development in a social media update following the accused persons’ appearance before the Accra High Court on Wednesday, July 23, 2025.
Dr. Abdul-Hamid was granted bail with two sureties, each required to earn a net monthly salary of at least GH¢5,000. He is also mandated to report to the OSP every two weeks.
However, the six other accused persons were unable to meet their respective bail conditions and remain in custody. They include Jacob Kwamina Amuah, Wendy Newman, Albert Ankrah, Isaac Mensah, Bright Bernako-Mensah, and Kwaku Aboagye Acquah.
The seven individuals are facing a total of 25 charges, including extortion by a public officer, conspiracy to commit money laundering, and money laundering. The charges arise from an alleged large-scale scheme involving more than GH¢280 million.
The case has been adjourned to August 26, 2025, for substantive hearings to begin.
