A 26-year-old commercial driver, John Arhin, is in critical condition after allegedly being subjected to a violent assault by police officers, leaving him with severe injuries that could result in permanent paralysis.
Arhin, a resident of Enyan Kokwado in the Ajumako-Enyan-Essiam District of the Central Region, recounted that the incident occurred on Monday, July 21, 2025, while he was driving to Ajumako to have his faulty sprinter bus repaired by a mechanic.
According to a report by Kasapa FM’s Yaw Boagyan, Arhin claimed he was unable to stop immediately when signaled by police officers due to the mechanical issues affecting his vehicle. The delay reportedly angered the officers, who chased him on a motorbike, forcibly dragged him out of his vehicle, and assaulted him.
Arhin further alleged that after the initial attack, the officers called for reinforcements. Two more officers arrived at the scene and, despite his already weakened state, inflicted further injuries, leaving him unable to walk.
Following the assault, the police allegedly abandoned him by the roadside. Arhin managed to contact his family, who came to his aid.
Since the incident, Arhin has remained at home due to financial constraints, unable to seek treatment at the Winneba Trauma and Specialist Hospital, where he was referred for urgent medical care.
His family has since made a passionate appeal to the Inspector General of Police (IGP), calling for a thorough investigation into the matter and the immediate arrest and prosecution of the officers involved.
As of now, the Central Regional Police Command has not issued an official statement regarding the incident.
