Residents of Adense in the Ahafo Ano South-East District of the Ashanti Region are urgently appealing for government intervention as their basic school faces severe infrastructural challenges.
The only school in the community is on the verge of collapse, with its teacher’s bungalow partially destroyed. The school is also severely understaffed, with only three teachers struggling to educate the students.

Students are forced to study in makeshift wooden structures that lack basic amenities, including potable water. The absence of proper toilet facilities has turned sanitation into a major health concern, endangering the well-being of both students and staff.
In an interview with Sompa FM, some frustrated residents lamented the neglect their community faces, despite its relative proximity to Kumasi.
“We are not far from Kumasi, yet we are treated as if we live in a remote area,” a resident said. “We urge the government to come to our aid and provide the necessary infrastructure for our children’s education.”
Meanwhile, the assembly member for the area, Hon. Dawuda Usif, acknowledged the difficulties in attracting and retaining teachers due to the poor conditions.
“When teachers are posted here, they leave because of the conditions,” he explained. “However, we have built a new teacher’s bungalow, which is awaiting inauguration.”

Despite this effort, residents insist that more must be done to improve the school’s infrastructure and create a conducive learning environment. They are calling on the government and relevant stakeholders to act swiftly to address the crisis.
