The Ghana senior national team, Black Stars’ coach Otto Addo on Monday released his 26-man squad ahead of the FIFA World Cup next week.
Notable names such as Jeffrey Schlupp, Josep Paintsil and Afena Gyan could not make the final list. Goalkeeper Joojo Walcott also did not make the squad due to a finger injury.
Many Ghanaians after Otto Addo released his final squad bashed him and questioned the criteria but which he selected his players.
However, Nana Sarfo Oduro, Executive Council Member, of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) in an exclusive interview on MYABC TV’s ‘Bekyere Mu’ show indicated that the Black Stars coach did what every European coach would have done.
According to him, although Otto Addo is of Ghanaian descent, his mentality is not African. He thinks like a German where he lived and had his training.
“Although Otto Addo is a Ghanaian, he has German and European mentality.” He told Gordon Bediako, host of the show.
Nana Oduro Sarfo explained that the Black Stars coach spoke to each and every player before rejection and selection. So the players who did not get the nod started telling their friends and families about not being called up and that brought the brouhaha.
“ … He took his time to talk to players individually and explain to them why they were selected or not selected. In those cases, players who were not selected for the world cup tournament in Qatar told their families and friends and they started bringing it out..” he revealed.
He said Ghanaians should be rest assured that, the Stars will perform well in the competition despite being ranked the weakest team going into the tournament.
