A former operative of the ruling New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) National Security apparatus, Bouda Kerry, has sparked widespread outrage following inflammatory comments made during a live interview on Oyerepa FM’s Breakfast Time show.
Kerry, reacting to the recent raid and attempted arrest of Ashanti Regional Chairman of the NPP, Bernard Antwi Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi, issued a stern warning to members of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), accusing them of intimidation.
“The way NDC members are intimidating us, if they don’t take caution, I swear to God, we’ll set this country on fire and burn all Ghanaians,” he declared on-air, prompting immediate condemnation from civil society groups and political analysts.
The arrest attempt on Chairman Wontumi was reportedly in connection with investigations into alleged financial loss to the state, though details remain unclear. The operation, led by national security operatives, has been described by some within the NPP as politically motivated and an abuse of state power.
Meanwhile, social media users have called on the Ghana Police Service to investigate Kerry’s comments and take appropriate action against him.
