The 2020 Presidential Candidate for the Progressive People’s Party (PPP), Brigitte Dzogbenuku has chastised the Akufo-Addo-led government over the expenditure of the Covid-19 trust fund.
It will be recalled that to leverage other resources to fight the pandemic, the Government passed the COVID-19 National Trust Fund Act (CNTF), 2020 (Act 1013) in April 2020 to establish the Fund. As of 30th June 2020, the CNTF had mobilized GH¢53,911,249.87 from individuals, churches, corporate bodies, staff of organizations, non-governmental organizations, groups, associations, etc.
But speaking in an interview with Kwesi Parker Wilson on Oyerepa Breakfast Time, Brigitte Dzogbenuku indicated that the government has embezzled all the funds.
“Where is the money we got from IMF and World Bank? What did the government use the Covid Money for? They have squandered the money.” She asserted.
She lamented over an embarrassment she went through over the Covid-19 funds at a forum.
“I attended a forum while the German ambassador to Ghana was the guest speaker; I was ashamed because of what he said about the Covid fund”. She revealed.
According to her, Ghanaian leaders feel they are not accountable to anyone.
