The Savannah Regional Police Command has successfully apprehended a suspect linked to the robbery and suspected murder of mobile money vendor Benjamin Apuri and another victim in Pwalugu, Upper East Region.
The suspect, Nuhu Mumuni, was arrested on April 8, 2025, following a well-coordinated intelligence-led operation in Mankarigu, a suburb of the North Gonja District, within the Savannah Region.
Confirming the arrest, Savannah Regional Police Commander, COP Samuel Winful, revealed that Mumuni had been on the wanted list of the Upper East Region for his involvement in the March 3, 2025 robbery, which resulted in the tragic death of Benjamin Apuri. The mobile money agent was fatally shot, and an undisclosed sum of money was stolen during the attack.
COP Winful highlighted that Mumuni’s arrest marks a major breakthrough in the case, with the police now preparing to transfer the suspect to the Upper East Region for further investigation and trial.
During a press briefing in Damongo, COP Winful also issued a caution to mobile money vendors, urging them to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the police.
“We encourage all mobile money agents to be more cautious and aware of their surroundings. They should report anything unusual to ensure their safety and the safety of the public,” he advised.
The police have assured the public of their commitment to bringing justice to the victims and continuing the investigation to ensure that all those involved in the crime are held accountable.
