The University of Ghana’s Health Services Directorate has issued a health alert in response to a recent rise in COVID-19 cases on and around campus.
In a statement released on June 23, 2025, the Directorate confirmed that both suspected and confirmed cases of COVID-19 have been reported within the university community and its immediate surroundings.
The alert calls on all students, staff, and visitors to remain vigilant and strictly adhere to public health protocols aimed at limiting the spread of the virus.
The recommended preventive measures include:
-
Wearing face masks in enclosed or crowded spaces
-
Regular handwashing with soap under running water or using alcohol-based hand sanitizers
-
Maintaining a minimum of one metre physical distance from others
-
Avoiding large gatherings unless absolutely necessary
-
Ensuring proper ventilation in lecture halls, offices, and meeting rooms
-
Staying home and seeking immediate medical care if experiencing flu-like symptoms
In response to the current situation, the Health Services Directorate has reactivated its COVID-19 Response Protocols. These include screening and triage at health facilities and continuous monitoring of the campus health situation. The Directorate has assured the community that regular updates will be provided as necessary.
“We must work together to protect ourselves and our community,” the statement emphasized.
Students, staff, or visitors experiencing symptoms or seeking more information are encouraged to contact the Health Services Directorate via email at phughospital@ug.edu.gh.
This local alert comes amid ongoing global efforts to monitor and manage periodic surges in COVID-19 cases.
