The Atasemanso Circuit Court in the Ashanti Region has sentenced three 18-year-olds to 10 years in prison each for their involvement in a violent armed robbery in Buobai, a community within the Asokore Mampong Municipality.
The convicted individuals—Mamudu Issah, Samuel Takyi, and Alhassan Abubakari—were arrested by the Ashanti Regional Police Command at a hideout in Aboabo during an intelligence-driven operation carried out with the assistance of community volunteers.
According to police reports, the trio—alongside three accomplices who are still on the run—carried out a brazen attack on residents of Buobai between 7:00 a.m. and 8:30 a.m. on Tuesday, July 1, 2025. Armed with machetes and riding two unregistered motorbikes, the group reportedly robbed victims of mobile phones, cash, and personal belongings.
The suspects were arraigned before the Atasemanso Circuit Court on Tuesday, July 8, 2025. All three pleaded guilty to charges of conspiracy to commit robbery and seven counts of robbery. Mamudu Issah also pleaded guilty to an additional charge of causing harm.
Issah was sentenced to 10 years in prison for each robbery-related count and three years for causing harm—all to run concurrently. Samuel Takyi and Alhassan Abubakari were each given a 10-year concurrent sentence for their roles in the robbery.
The Ashanti Regional Police Command confirmed that the convicts have been processed and transferred to the Kumasi Central Prisons to begin serving their sentences. Meanwhile, efforts are ongoing to locate and arrest the remaining three suspects still at large.
Police have praised the collaborative efforts of local residents in helping to apprehend the criminals and reiterated their commitment to ensuring public safety and swift justice.
