Teacher Trainees Now Receive Only One Meal Daily Under Mahama Gov’t – Paul Yandoh

The Ashanti Regional Communications Director of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Paul Yandoh, has criticised the Mahama-led National Democratic Congress (NDC) administration, alleging that teacher trainees are now fed only once a day as a result of worsening conditions in colleges of education.

Speaking on Oyerepa Breakfast Time on Tuesday, December 9, 2025, Yandoh claimed that the welfare of trainees has sharply declined compared to what existed under former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.

According to him, trainees enjoyed three meals a day under the Akufo-Addo administration, but the situation has deteriorated under the current government.

“Teacher Trainees were being fed three times a day under the Nana Addo-led NPP government, but today, under President  John Mahama, the students eat once a day. I will not sit here and lie to you,” he insisted.

Yandoh further alleged that fees at Teacher Training Colleges such as St. Louis College of Education have doubled within the first year of the new NDC administration.

“During Akufo-Addo’s era, if you go to St. Louis College of Education, school fees were GH₵2,500, but under the John Mahama-led NDC government, students are paying GH₵5,000.”

The NPP communicator said these developments contradict the NDC government’s claims that inflation has decreased and the cost of living has improved.

He argued that the current economic conditions show a rising level of hardship, especially among students and young people.

He maintained that the government’s record on social welfare, affordability, and cost of living is inconsistent with its public statements, urging Ghanaians to pay attention to the realities on the ground.
