The Member of Parliament for Sekondi, Blay Nyameke Armah, has filed a defamation lawsuit at the High Court of Justice in Accra against Ignite Media Group, the Jospong Group of Companies, and media personality Lawuratu Musah-Saka.
The legal action stems from allegedly defamatory statements made on the television program Good Morning Ghana, which were later widely circulated on social media platforms.
In a writ dated April 9, 2025, the MP claims that the first defendant made false and damaging accusations, alleging that he was in possession of 3,000 kilograms of cocaine valued at $350 million and was involved in multinational drug trafficking operations.
Further, the statements implied that Armah’s son had been arrested in connection with the alleged crimes, and that the MP himself had fled to a neighboring country to avoid prosecution.
According to Armah, the allegations have inflicted significant harm on his personal and professional reputation as a lawyer, businessman, and sitting Member of Parliament. He also cited emotional distress and public humiliation as a result of the claims, as reported by Citi Newsroom.
The plaintiff maintains that the accusations are entirely false, fabricated, and maliciously intended to depict him as the leader of a criminal drug cartel.
In his lawsuit, Armah is seeking the following reliefs:
-
A judicial declaration that the statements made were false, malicious, and defamatory.
-
A retraction and public apology from the defendants, published with the same prominence as the original content.
-
A perpetual injunction restraining the defendants from making or publishing further defamatory remarks.
-
General, aggravated, punitive, and compensatory damages totaling GH₵10,000,000.
-
Legal costs and any other relief the court may deem appropriate.
