The Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) has served a final evacuation notice to all occupants operating along the Santasi Roundabout–Asokwa Interchange corridor as part of efforts to clear the area for the ongoing construction of a dual-carriage road.
In a statement issued by its Public Relations Unit, the Assembly directed all affected persons—especially car dealers, mechanics, taxi operators, traders, squatters, and owners of temporary structures—to vacate the corridor by January 20, 2026, to enable redevelopment works to proceed without hindrance.
KMA recalled that an earlier notice, dated September 24, 2025, had instructed occupants, including owners of billboards mounted along the stretch, to relocate by November 1, 2025. Despite repeated reminders, the Assembly noted that some individuals have yet to comply with the directive.
According to the statement, construction works on the Santasi–Asokwa dual carriage road have already begun, making the immediate clearance of the area essential to meeting project timelines. Engineers from the Ghana Water Company Limited (GWCL) and the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) are also currently relocating key utility installations along the corridor.
The Assembly appealed to residents and traders within the affected area to cooperate fully with contractors and technical teams on site, stressing that such collaboration is vital to ensure the smooth and timely execution of the project.
KMA further advised owners of impacted garages and structures to seek assistance from relevant agencies, including the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO), the Physical Planning Department, and the Urban Roads Department, for guidance and possible relocation options.
The Santasi–Asokwa road project is expected to ease traffic congestion and significantly improve mobility within Kumasi upon completion. The Assembly emphasised that adherence to the evacuation directive will greatly support the successful and timely delivery of this key infrastructure project.
