President John Dramani Mahama has inaugurated a 12-member Presidential Advisory Group on the Economy to provide strategic guidance and policy direction for managing and transforming Ghana’s economy.
The committee is tasked with assessing current economic conditions and proposing measures to stabilise the macroeconomic environment, restore investor confidence, and promote inclusive growth.
Vice President Prof. Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang is among the members, joined by veteran economist and private sector leader Kwame Pianim, and renowned industrialist Sir Samuel Esson Jonah.

At the inauguration on Wednesday, February 11, 2026, President Mahama emphasised the importance of coordinated economic planning and evidence-based policymaking to address the country’s current challenges.
He said the committee’s work would complement government efforts to empower local enterprises, enhance productivity, and promote sustainable development.
“I do not want this committee to misunderstand my optimism in the advice you will offer as an endorsement of an easy task ahead. You are qualified to know that we face a tough road ahead, regardless of the progress we may have achieved today,” he stated, urging members to use their expertise to craft practical, forward-looking solutions.
The advisory group is expected to collaborate closely with relevant ministries, departments, and agencies to ensure that its recommendations align with Ghana’s national development priorities.
