The Ghana Police Service has arrested seven individuals suspected to be involved in a highway robbery targeting a Council of State member, which occurred on July 21, 2025, along the Tamale-Buipe Highway.
The suspects are Rashida Youssef, Aaron Abana Basrifang, Wilson Avasong, Muntaro Idrisu (alias Virgin), Aminu Zebrila (alias Breadman), Inusa Sumaila (alias Agenda), and Haruna Safiano.
According to COP Lydia Donkor, Director-General of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID), the robbery involved six armed men attacking the victim, stealing personal belongings, including mobile phones, cash, wristwatches, reading glasses, and a laptop.
The arrests were made following intelligence gathered by the CID, leading to the retrieval of stolen items, including an iPhone 7 Plus, and the discovery of incriminating items like locally manufactured guns and ammunition.
Aminu Zebrila, one of the suspects, is an ex-convict who was convicted of robbery in 2012. The police are continuing investigations to apprehend other suspects and retrieve a weapon believed to be in their possession.
According to CID Boss , on January 11, 2026, the CID received intelligence leading to the dispatch of the Anti-Arm Robbery Unit to Saraga in the Savannah Region. This resulted in the arrest of Rashida Youssef, found with an iPhone 7 Plus belonging to a victim, which was subsequently retrieved.
During interrogation, suspect, Wilson Avasong, one of the suspects, revealed during interrogation that he bought the phone from Muntaru Idrisu, also known as Virgin, a phone repairer, for 1,000 Ghana Cedis.
Acting on this information, the police arrested Muntaru Idrisu at Tamale Abu Agbo Market. He subsequently led the officers to Dungu, a suburb of Tamale, where they arrested Aminu Zebrila, alias Breadman, a 35-year-old Okada rider.
