The National Service Authority (NSA) has uncovered 8,105 ghost names in its payroll system, potentially saving the state GH₵68,640,000 per year. The revelation was made by the NSA’s Director General, Ms. Ruth Dela Seddoh, at a press briefing.
According to Ms. Seddoh, the authority has been battling payroll fraud, with ghost names being fraudulently entered into the system. To combat this, the NSA introduced new IT reforms, including a centralized system with robust management controls, replacing the old system.
The investigation revealed serious irregularities at three tertiary institutions: University for Development Studies (UDS), Ghana Communications Technology University (GCTU), and Akenten Appiah-Menka University of Skills Training and Entrepreneurial Development (AAMUSTED).
Ms. Seddoh stated that swift action has been taken to prevent financial losses and that the NSA is pursuing legal measures against individuals and institutions involved.
The Director General emphasized that the NSA remains committed to ensuring transparency and accountability in its operations.
