Kennedy Agyepong, the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Flagbearer Hopeful has disclosed what influenced his decision to contest for the party’s presidential candidate position.
According to him, he saw clearly that the party was going into a ditch so he needed to contest for flagbearership to save the NPP from going into opposition in 2024.
“I saw that things were not going right and that if we allowed Vice president (Bawumia) to be flagbearer, we were going to lose. Because Ghanaians are angry due to hardship,” he stated in an interview with Oyerepa TV on OBT.
The Assin Central lawmaker disclosed further that, “President (Akufo-Addo) went to Kejetia, he was not welcomed, his Vice went there he was also not welcomed but when I got there the people came in their numbers and welcomed me. Why because this season is Kennedy Agyapong’s season.”
“Ghanaians say they have tried politicians who are economics, lawyers; soldiers so this time let’s try Kennedy Agyapong the businessman.
So when I sat down and looked at what the people were saying, if I didn’t involve myself in the contest, we can never break the eight.” .” The NPP flagbearer hopeful said.
Adding what again necessitated his decision, Ken said, “When you give suggestions in parliament they don’t take it but the ideas in my head, if I don’t become president, I’ve disappointed Ghanaians. I may die with all my ideas. So I decided to vie for the NPP flagbearership position to become Ghana’s president. I want to prove to Ghanaians that, I’m a pragmatic leader.”
The NPP will hold its Presidential primaries on Saturday, November 4 and key candidates such as Vice President Bawumia and Kennedy Agyapong are poised to take the crown to lead the NPP in 2024 Ghana’s General polls.
