Dr. Nana Yaw Ayew Afriye, the Member of Parliament for Effiduase Asokore constituency in the Ashanti region, has attributed the party’s crushing defeat in the 2024 elections to the arrogance of former President Nana Akufo-Addo.
In an interview with Kwesi Parker Wilson on Oyerepa Breakfast Time, Dr. Afriye, who was Dr. Bawumia’s campaign coordinator for the middle belt, criticized Akufo-Addo’s behavior, citing instances where he disrespected traditional leaders and constituents.
Specifically, Dr. Afriye mentioned an incident where Akufo-Addo ordered a chief to greet him, which he deemed as unacceptable.
He also referenced the former president’s behavior in Kwabre East constituency, where the NPP had traditionally enjoyed significant support.
“If you are going to the elections and the president tells you, ‘Kwabre East, if you will not vote for me, it is your own case.’ If he says this, how do you want the people to feel?” Dr. Afriye stated.
