No load shedding or Power Deficit – Energy Minister Clarifies

Energy Minister John Jinapor has reiterated that Ghana is not experiencing load shedding, insisting that the country has sufficient power generation capacity to meet current electricity demand.

In a Facebook post on Friday, January 30, the Minister disclosed that he had held meetings with the leadership of key power sector agencies to assess the state of electricity supply across the country.

Mr. Jinapor stressed that Ghana has not experienced load shedding for over 10 months, adding that there is no power generation shortfall.

“I wish to state unequivocally that there has been no load shedding for over ten months, and there is no deficit in power generation.”

However, he acknowledged reports of frequent power outages in parts of Accra and Kumasi, explaining that the interruptions are not the result of inadequate power generation but rather operational challenges within the power distribution system.

According to the Minister, he has directed the relevant agencies to urgently present a clear, time-bound plan to address the outages and restore a stable power supply in the affected areas.

He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to providing reliable, uninterrupted electricity to all Ghanaians, assuring the public that swift measures are being taken to address the reported challenges.
