The National Media Commission (NMC) has written to Management of Power FM to render an unqualified apology to the Second Lady, Samira Bawumia, and, by extension, the Fulani community in Ghana.
The Accra-based station is said to have rained gender-based insults on Mrs Bawumia in a broadcast on Wednesday, November 1.
The insinuations were said to have also targeted the Fulani community in Ghana.
“Such behaviour has no place in our search for national cohesion, peace and development,” the Commission said in its letter on Monday, November 6, 2023.
“Your presenter’s phoney protestation was unprofessional and deceitfully calculated to egg the commentator on,” it observed.
According to the letter, the presenter rather became “a cheerleader for obscenity” instead of calling the commentator to order.
“We ask you to apologise to H.E. Hajia Samira Bawumia and the Fulani Community,” the Commission demanded.
“We additionally ask that you apologise to the Ghanaian public whose sensibilities you breached by that broadcast.
“We expect you to undertake the above and present evidence of same to the Commission before November 11, 2023 after which date you may hear further from the Commission.”
