Veteran Ghanaian musician, Tic Tac, has admitted that Nigerian musicians are currently putting in more effort in the music industry compared to their Ghanaian counterparts.
Speaking on Oyerepa Entertaiment Review, Tic Tac, now known as TiC, reflected on the dominance Ghanaian music once had in Nigeria, particularly between 2003 and 2010.
According to him, during that period, Ghanaian songs were frequently played on Nigerian radio stations, and the festive season was filled with Ghanaian music.
“Once upon a time, we were doing more work than them. Around 2003 to 2010, if you had been to Nigeria, you could ask yourself whether you were in Nigeria or Ghana. Because the Christmas songs were Ghana songs. They were playing Ghanaian songs on their airwaves,” he stated.
However, he noted that the situation has changed, with Nigerian artists now taking over the African music scene through their hard work and global recognition.
He urged Ghanaian musicians to step up their game and be more strategic in promoting their craft on the international stage.
TiC’s comments come at a time when many industry players in Ghana have expressed concerns over the growing influence of Nigerian music across Africa and beyond. While some argue that Ghanaian artists need more structural support, others believe it is a matter of putting in more effort and adapting to global trends.
