Member of Parliament for Abuakwa South Constituency, Dr. Kingsley Agyeman, has expressed concern over the government’s failure to prioritize the mental health of Ghanaian youth.
According to the Abuakwa South MP, the NDC, despite making over 30 health promises in the 2024 manifesto, only six were included in the 2025 budget, which he described as an “Aboboya budget.”
The MP revealed that over 1000 Ghanaian youth are exposed to hard drugs like opioids and require urgent intervention to address the challenge, but the NDC government did not allocate funds to tackle the situation.
“Mental health is a major concern for us as a people, and in every constituency, there are youth who are using hard substances like opioids. Over 1000 youths have been exposed to the use of opioids, yet the NDC did not allocate any funds in the budget.”
During his contribution to the budget statement on the floor of parliament, the MP further noted that despite the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic, the NDC failed to allocate any funds to address such emergencies.
He believes that the current administration led by John Dramani has little regard for public health and the overall health needs of the population.
“Public health emergencies and pandemics should be a priority for us, considering the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic. However, the NDC did not allocate any funds in the national budget. We must learn from the harsh lessons of Covid.”
Dr. Kingsley Agyeman appealed to the government to revise the budget and allocate more funds to address the health needs of the population.
