Former Chief Executive Officer of the National Entrepreneurship and Innovation Programme (NEIP), Kofi Ofosu Nkansah, is currently in the custody of the National Investigation Bureau (NIB) as part of ongoing efforts to verify allegations surrounding the alleged sale of government-funded foreign scholarships.
Confirmation of his detention was made by the Chief Executive Officer of Ghana Digital Centres Limited, Dzifa Gunu, in a Facebook post. She indicated that Mr. Nkansah was taken in after failing to honour previous invitations from the NIB to present evidence to back his claims.
“Kofi Ofosu Nkansah has been picked up by the NIB to substantiate his allegations of the sale of foreign scholarships. He is currently in the custody of the NIB after declining their invitation,” she wrote.
Mr. Nkansah’s detention follows a directive from President John Dramani Mahama, who ordered the NIB to conduct a comprehensive investigation into the allegations. The directive was conveyed by the Minister for Government Communications, Felix Kwakye Fosu, after Mr. Nkansah made the claims during a radio programme on Sompa 106.5 FM that gained widespread public attention.
During the broadcast, Mr. Nkansah alleged that individuals were required to make payments to secure government-sponsored scholarships to study abroad, raising serious concerns about transparency and fairness in the allocation process.
In an official letter dated February 3, 2026, the allegations were described as “serious and of grave public concern.” The NIB was instructed to establish the facts, identify any individuals involved, and determine the credibility of the claims. The Bureau is expected to submit its findings directly to the President for further action where necessary.
