The Minority in Parliament has formally petitioned the Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ), the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP), and the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) of the Ghana Police Service, calling for a comprehensive investigation into the conduct of Sammy Gyamfi.
Sammy Gyamfi currently serves as the Acting Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Gold Board and is also the National Communications Officer of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC).
The petition follows the circulation of a viral video between May 10 and 12, 2025, which shows Gyamfi handling large sums of foreign currency. The footage has raised serious concerns about possible legal and ethical violations.
According to Hon. Nurideen Muhammad Mumuni, Member of Parliament for the Nalerigu/Gambaga Constituency and a member of the Minority, the actions captured in the video may constitute breaches of Ghana’s laws and public service codes of conduct. Specifically, the Minority suggests that Gyamfi may have violated the Foreign Exchange Act (Act 723) by allegedly handling foreign currency without proper authorization.
“We are calling on the relevant state institutions to investigate the source of the money and determine whether any laws were broken,” Hon. Mumuni stated. “If he is found innocent, he should be cleared. If not, the law must take its course.”
The Minority maintains that the matter warrants urgent attention to uphold accountability, transparency, and the rule of law.
