Member of Parliament for Asante Bekwai, Joseph Osei-Owusu, has advised New Patriotic Party (NPP) representatives in Parliament to adopt a negotiating approach rather than competing to make their voices heard.
He believes that a competitive mindset will only silence the minority throughout the 9th Parliament.
Osei-Owusu, who is also the First Deputy Speaker of the 8th Parliament, emphasized the importance of a different approach, stating that competing on the floor of the house would be pointless
Instead, he suggests that NPP representatives should focus on making their points and allowing the majority to decide.
This approach, according to Osei-Owusu, will enable the minority to have their voices heard and contribute meaningfully to the legislative process. His comments were made on Joy News, where he shared his insights on effective parliamentary representation.
“I think that we should use a different approach to be heard on the floor of the house, not necessarily getting into competition; it will be pointless. Our approach should not be focusing on competing on the floor of the house.
There is nothing to be gained in that exercise. There is not much we can do on the floor of Parliament, but then when there is a decision, the alternative must be heard. On the floor, you make your point and leave the decision to the majority to decide.”
