The Ashanti Regional Communications Director of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Paul Yandoh, has expressed skepticism about the ability of newly appointed Minister of Education, Haruna Iddrisu, to uphold the high standards set by his predecessor, Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum.
According to Yandoh, Iddrisu’s tenure is likely to face significant challenges due to certain government policies that could negatively impact the education sector.
He believes these policies might lead to a decline in educational progress, ultimately tarnishing the reputation of the new minister.
One of his primary concerns is the rumored cancellation of teacher trainee allowances, a decision he argues would not be in the best interest of educators.
Additionally, he noted growing difficulties in the feeding of Senior High School (SHS) students, questioning the sustainability of the initiative.
During a panel discussion on Oyerepa Breakfast Time on February 4, 2025, Yandoh said;
“They sent Haruna Iddrisu to the education ministry to disgrace him. You will see that due to the remarkable improvements brought to the sector by Dr. Adutwum, the whole world recognized Ghana’s progress in education.
“Look at the advancements in STEM education and the impressive projects students are undertaking, including motion detectors, planes, ships, and more. However, student feeding is becoming a major issue, and they no longer have any hope. Now, teachers are the target. They just want to destroy the school system. The government intends to scrap teacher allowances, leaving them struggling financially.”
