A man in his late 40s has been arrested in connection with the alleged killing of a 50-year-old woman at Gomoa Potsin in the Gomoa East District of the Central Region.
The suspect was apprehended at the Gomoa Dominase onion market shortly after the incident.
According to sources, the victim, identified as Habibah, a cow milk seller, had gone to her farm early in the morning when she was reportedly attacked in a nearby bush. It is alleged that a struggle ensued between her and the suspect, during which she was overpowered and killed. Her body was later found under a tree in the bush.
Residents say the victim sensed danger before the attack and managed to place a phone call to her son. However, the call reportedly ended abruptly, prompting the son to mobilise a group of young men to search for her.
While heading towards the area, the group encountered the suspect, who allegedly had bloodstains on his hand. Though he denied any involvement when questioned, the search party later discovered the victim’s body and intensified efforts to locate him. He was subsequently arrested at the onion market.

Police officers intervened when some residents attempted to assault the suspect and quickly whisked him away to prevent mob justice. He has since been transferred to the Kasoa Central East Regional Police Command to assist with investigations.
Eyewitnesses claimed that the suspect had the victim’s slippers in his possession at the time of his arrest. Some residents further alleged that the suspect may have attempted to sexually assault the victim, which could have led to the fatal struggle.
Police have not yet issued an official statement on the incident, but investigations are ongoing.
